McAlister-Spruill Marriage

October 25, 1889
pg. 3

At the home of the bride, on Wednesday night, October 16th, Mr. Johnnine McAlister, a prosperous young farmer, to the accomplished Miss Maggie Spruill, both of Roper. The Beacon extends hearty congratulations and best wishes to the happy young couple.

Research note: I don’t find their marriage license listed at the site for Washington County, but I did find them in the 1900 census. In 1900, they are still living in the county and have five children. Now, the very interesting thing is that they live next door to a black Christopher McNair and his wife Isabella and kids. McNairs in this area are in my family tree – are they related to me? Don’t know for sure, as this Christopher would have been 10 years younger than the last known patriarch of the family – Rufus McNair and I have no information on any siblings, etc. of Rufus. Hmm…something to investigate one day.
